Presentation Day

 Sunday 11 May 2008 - 16:37:04 | JD ©

On a very warm day in Derbys, our Black Belts students today received their TaeKwon-Do International & their TAGB Black Belt Certificates, from TAGB North Midlands Area Coordinator Master Brian Towndrow.

They then went off to have an hours training with Master Towndrow, working on their new patternes.

An excellent day and a wonderful and proud moment for the club instructor John Davis, who also received his 3rd Dan certificate.

Relay for Life

 Friday 02 May 2008 - 21:58:22 | Julie

Saturday 23rd - Sunday 24th August 2008  10am-10am. (Bank Holiday Weekend)

A 24 hour relay walkathon, in aid of Cancer Research at Swanwick

Last year we entered a team into this event and raised over £1100. We are hoping to enter a team for this year's walk and raise even more than last year's amazing total.

We had a great time last May, my legs found it extremly memorable! The lads loved it and JD really enjoyed it , so much so that he is on the organising commitee this year, rendering him unable to join the walkers.......

There will be more details, forms and organising stuff to tell you about when we get an idea of numbers, but basically we need to keep a team member walking around a track at all times. That's why it's called Relay for Life (but there are no batons involved tongue.png ) and the more team members we have the less walking Jamie has to do.

If you want to know about what the night sky looks like at 4am ask me, if you want to know about football, Cameron wearing a feathered bra, indian takeaway food, army tents and if I remember correctly, belly dancers ask the boys!

Please seriously think about joining the team,

Julie & Cameron xx

Breaking NEWS

 Tuesday 01 April 2008 - 08:50:35 | JD ©

Hot off the press...........

News is just breaking that pattern Chon Ji has been reviewed by the ITF (International TKD Federation) and they are about to remove pattern Chon Ji from the sylabus as it is not POLITICALLY CORRET. They feel that the words "HEAVEN & earth" is starting to offend some pratitioners of TKD who do not hold such beliefs.

The TAGB are watching this move carefully, to see if they are going to accept the replacement pattern, and this will be discussed at the next management council meeting of the TAGB.

The pattern, which as yet does not have any name, but is thought to be based on the prinsipal of BLANDENSS (from which all things inevitably begin. The pattern will seek to inspire the student through the Perseverance tenet. It is also rumored to be quite difficult to do. Early reports claim that the the inclusion of a jumping 520 degree kick is causing some concern and much debate, within the patterns dept at the ITF.

I will report more when I have it, but in a telephone conversation i had last night with my contact in the ITF, Master Loo Flir Pa 9th Dan, followed by a quick conversation with Master Towndrow, it looks like this IS going to happen...........

What is TaeKwon-Do

 Thursday 19 October 2006 - 14:30:16 | JD ©

Tae Kwon Do is the Korean art of self-defense.

Literally translated, TAE means kick or to strike with the foot, KWON means fist or to strike with the hand, DO means discipline or art. It is much more than the image of the martial arts physical aspect. It is designed as a non-violent art and system of complete body exercises as well as being a way of life. It includes physical techniques, mental discipline, and a deep philosophy. By practicing Tae Kwon Do, one can benefit in these ways;

PHYSICALLY - One can develop good coordination, gain strength, increase flexibility, and improve cardiovascular conditioning. From all of these physical practices, one can have a strong body.

MENTALLY - One can build self-confidence, gain better judgement, and improve self-control. From all of these mental disciplines, one can have a sound mind.

PHILOSOPHICALLY - While developing a strong body and a sound mind, it is appropriate to learn the valuable philosophical tools and lessons in life offered by Tae Kwon Do philosophy. Among these lessons:

The way to be honest, always standing for justice.
How to respect and help others.
The meaning of loyalty and courtesy.

Incorporating these aspects into one's life will build for them; the ability to be strong, to be humble, to be gentle, and to maintain self-respect.

Tae Kwon Do philosophy emphasizes good health, happiness, generosity, and a sense of value of freedom, justice, and peace. All of these inspire independence and coexistence.

Tae Kwon Do is an art of humanity. It is a guide for the formation of outstanding character. It is practiced as a modern world sport. It is useful as a contemporary universal philosophy.

Taekwondo is practiced in 123 countries with over 30 million practitioners and 3 million individuals with black belts throughout the world.

How can I benefit from practicing Taekwondo?

The most important aspect of Taekwondo is that it is not only a superior art of self-defense, but of the mind as well. Taekwondo students develop discipline, confidence, concentration, and respect. These benefits spill over into all facets of the students' lives. With its practical means of self-defense, its complete regimen of physical conditioning, and its aid to improved mental performance, Taekwondo offers a total fitness program integrating mind, body and spirit.
